Nature-based Talk Therapy
healing is meant to feel safe, approachable & real.
Nature-based talk therapy brings traditional therapy into the outdoors. Sessions support reflection, connection and presence while helping reduce stress and calm the nervous system.
This approach offers a slower, more grounded way to engage in therapy, especially for those who find office settings uncomfortable.
An Alternative to the Traditional Setting
Nature-based talk therapy offers the same thoughtful, trauma-informed support as traditional talk therapy — just in a different environment.
Sessions take place outdoors on the farm in a quiet, private space. Some days may be spent sitting and talking, others walking, or simply slowing things down together.
The work itself remains the same: processing, exploring and making sense of what’s coming up. The difference is the setting — one that allows for more space, less pressure and a more natural pace.
While the horses may be nearby, there is no interaction with them during these sessions.
Meeting you where you are
Relational & Grounded
Sessions are centered on meeting each person where they are & are conducted one-on-one with our therapist, Nicole. The work is collaborative, with a focus on building trust, exploring what’s coming up & creating space to process without judgment or urgency.
Awareness & connection
There is a strong emphasis on helping clients connect not just to their thoughts, but to what’s happening beneath the surface. This may include gentle awareness of the body, mindfulness & slowing things down enough to notice patterns, emotions & shifts as they happen.

I created this nature-based talk therapy offering because I’ve seen how hard it can be to open up in a traditional office. Through my work in community mental health, partial hospitalization programs (PHP), intensive outpatient programs (IOP), substance use treatment, private practice and family counseling, I’ve supported people in a lot of different spaces — many of which can feel structured, clinical or just not quite comfortable. Those experiences shaped how I show up now and what I want therapy to feel like.
I offer these sessions because:
Sometimes your body needs something different than sitting across from someone under fluorescent lights.
Being outside can gently support regulation, without forcing anything.
Therapy should be accessible — both emotionally and financially.
Healing is about meeting people where they are — not just mentally, but physically and emotionally too.
At Whispering Soul, I’ve always believed that healing should feel safe, accessible and real. A big part of why I created this space was because I saw how many people didn’t feel comfortable in traditional therapy settings or felt like they had to show up a certain way to be “doing it right.” That’s never what I want therapy to feel like.
I’m a trauma-informed therapist, and a lot of my work is rooted in helping people feel safer in their own bodies, not just in their thoughts. I show up in a grounded, relational and human way. My goal isn’t to “fix” you, it’s to support you in understanding yourself, feeling more regulated and building a life that actually feels sustainable.
The farm is a big part of this approach. It naturally slows things down and gives space to breathe, pause and notice what’s coming up without forcing it. Even without working directly with the horses, being here can shift how therapy feels. These sessions are strictly talk therapy, providing the same trauma-informed support as an office-based session, just in a more natural, calming environment.
where healing feels easier
Being outside naturally creates space, both physically and mentally. For many people, it feels easier to open up without the structure or pressure of a traditional office. There’s room to pause, breathe & move at a comfortable pace. The environment supports a sense of grounding, allowing thoughts and emotions to surface naturally, without forcing the process.
This may be a good fit if you:
Feel uncomfortable in traditional therapy settings
Are feeling overwhelmed or constantly “on edge”
Want a slower, more grounded approach
Are looking for a therapy approach that feels approachable & accessible
You don’t need to have everything figured out before starting, just being open to trying is enough.
FAQs
Do I interact with horses in talk therapy sessions?
1
No. These sessions are one-on-one talk therapy with our therapist, Nicole. The horses may be nearby, but there is no interaction with them.
The focus is entirely on your conversation and processing.
how long is a talk therapy session?
2
Nature-Based Talk Therapy sessions follow the same structure as traditional talk therapy and last 50 minutes. This gives you plenty of time to settle in, explore what’s coming up and process at a comfortable pace without feeling rushed.
What if I don’t know where to start?
3
That’s completely okay. You don’t need a plan or the “right” words. Sessions begin wherever you are, whether that’s talking about what brought you in, how you’ve been feeling, or even just noticing what’s coming up in the moment. Nicole will guide the conversation gently, creating space for you to explore at your own pace without pressure or judgment.
Dress comfortably for the weather and the outdoors. Layers and shoes suitable for walking are usually best. You don’t need anything special, just clothing that lets you move freely and feel at ease.
4
What should I wear?
Nature-Based Talk Therapy sessions are $75 per session, with a sliding scale available. Accessibility is important, so if cost feels like a barrier, Nicole is happy to discuss options to make support possible for you.

How much does it cost?
What if the weather isn’t ideal?
6
If the weather is severe, we can reschedule or move the session to a telehealth format. Your comfort and safety always come first, and support continues without added stress.
Can I try equine therapy later?
7
Absolutely. If you ever want to explore equine-assisted sessions, we can talk about what that would look like. There’s no pressure — it’s always at your pace, when it feels right for you.
